what technique do you use to get this shadow and light effect this good?
This is a different singer. As far as technique, I just try to get as close as possible to what I see. I use charcoal for the really dark shadows, because I've found that even 6B pencils aren't dark enough...or they might be too glossy to give it the right effect. And the really light highlights I just avoid shading all together, leave it blank. On this one I used everything from 4B to 6H pencils, but I use smudge sticks to blend it so it has that smooth look to it. Hope this was helpful.
